Marines from Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany Headquarters Company traveled to the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center in Columbus, Ga., for a day of PME training and unit camaraderie, Oct. 17. The museum, located adjacent to Ft. Moore, honors the legacy and valor of the U.S. Army Infantryman and emphasizes the values that define them such as loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage.

Representatives of multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Marine Corps Police Department at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, pinned flowers on the wreaths and retired Marine Col. Dan Gillan played a bagpipe rendition of Amazing Grace. The ceremony also included a final radio call and joint proclamation by Albany Albany 911 Communications. Among those honored was Marine Cpl. Headquarters Company, Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, conducted familiarization fire training using the M240B medium machine-gun, Feb. 8, 2023. The training was conducted to build proficiency in the use of the weapon system and to enhance the individual marksmanship abilities of Marines. “It is critically important that Marines, especially those assigned to the Security Augmentation Force, are proficient with the M240 and are able to properly employ the weapon system during SAF operations,” said Master Sgt. Tracy Brown, base operations chief, MCLB Albany.

Among those at the ceremony to mark the achievement was Marine Corps Commandant Gen. David Berger, Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Energy, Installations and Environment Meredith Berger and MCLB Albany Commanding Officer Col. Michael Fitzgerald. Five students from the local Commodore Conyers College and Career Academy are currently completing internships aboard Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany. The students are learning about careers in engineering, information technology, mechatronics and production control.

The airliner used in the exercise was an older abandoned aircraft cleaned and prepared by the Albany Young Marines.

Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany and Albany State University leaders inked an education partnership to offer certificate programs in Cybersecurity and Logistics, April 19. Col. Michael Fitzgerald, commanding officer, MCLB Albany, and Dr. Marion Fedrick, president, ASU, signed the memorandum of understanding offering courses on base to active-duty personnel, their families, reservists, Department of Defense employees and eligible retired military personnel.

On October 2, the Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany Shooting Team conducted a United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) match in Midway, Florida, to increase their lethality through training scenarios requiring fast and accurate fire from varied shooting positions.

MCLB Albany hosted a Battle Skills Test to implement challenging and realistic training, June 25. Teams completed all timed phases including ground fighting, medical evaluation, Kim's Game, and pistol range. There were seven interns total serving over a 12-week period. William Sandefur, Lorenzo Thomas and Tanesha Tumblin received their certificates from Leonard Housley, executive director, MCLB Albany, during a ceremony on base, June 1. Thomas and Tumblin were hired for full-time employment by the contract company working with the base's Communications and Information Systems Division. The group performed well and were beneficial to the divisions they served. Not pictured are Rateque Waters, Kateria Taylor, Tora Williams and Oscar Conley.

Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany hosted a CH-47F Chinook aircraft orientation for nearly 70 Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadets from Albany State University and Fort Valley State University, April 29. The intent was to build interest in aviation and the Georgia Army National Guard while also showing cadets, some of whom were selected for active-duty, the various capabilities within the Army. MCLB Albany PFT Training

The aqueous-film forming foam, or AFFF, used in Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany Fire & Emergency Services’ trucks, until recently, had an unknown amount of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. This presented a possible health risk. Headquarters Marine Corps contracted out a company to drain out the old product and put in a new one. Located adjacent to the bachelor enlisted quarters at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany is a site where an electrical polychlorinated biphenyl, or PCB, transformer once stood. It was decommissioned in 1988 as part of a base-wide inspection conducted to identify all PCB transformers and remove those that were leaking.

Contamination source clean up underway

Located adjacent to the bachelor enlisted quarters at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany is a site where an electrical polychlorinated biphenyl, or PCB, transformer once stood. The Staff Non-Commissioned Officers Wives Thrift Shop benefited Marines stationed at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany as well as their families. It has shared in the stories of the Marines who have walked in and out of its doors, provided goods, handed out academic scholarships and built relationships with organizations in the Albany community.
