July 3, 2014 --
Headquarters Company East, Marine Corps Logistics Command, welcomed its new commanding officer, Capt. Thomas F. Cutsinger, during a change of command ceremony held at the Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany's Base Chapel Annex, Friday.
Cutsinger accepted the guidon from outgoing company commander Maj. Alexander J. Vanston.
Cutsinger, an infantry officer, joins the command from Camp Pendleton, California, where in May 2012, he became the executive officer for Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines.
Upon assuming command, Cutsinger said, “In the past, Marine Corps Logistics Command supported my Marines by giving them the necessary tools to accomplish our mission. I now look forward to working with the Marines of LOGCOM and supporting them in accomplishing their mission.”
In September 2012, Cutsinger volunteered for an individual augment billet as the operations officer for Border Advisor Team 2/6 and in April 2013, he deployed to Helmand province, Afghanistan, with the advisor team.
Upon landing at Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan, he was tasked with standing up the Regional Corps Battle School for the Afghan National Army located in Shorabak, Afghanistan. There he taught basic officer infantry tactics to Afghan National Army officers.
Vanston, the outgoing company commander, said, “I found the last two years as the company commander of (Headquarters Company) East both challenging and rewarding. While I will miss working so closely with the Marines of the command, I look forward to the new challenges and opportunities as LOGCOM's staff secretary.”
