Preparedness tips ahead of potential severe weather

15 Mar 2025 | Kerri Copello Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany

Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany continues to monitor the threat for severe weather forecast for Sunday, March 16.

As of Saturday morning, meteorologists from the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, Florida are preparing the region for a potentially significant severe weather outbreak. The main threats are strong, long-track tornadoes (EF2+), dangerous wind gusts upwards of 70 mph and large hail. Nighttime tornadoes are a possibility - do not wait until it is too late to take shelter.

Ahead of the storm is the best time to prepare.

  • Have multiple ways to receive warnings as they are issued - weather radio, phone alerts, TV, and/or a trusted weather app.
  • Know your safe place - a basement or interior room on the lowest floor.
  • Charge your phone, medical equipment and have emergency supplies in case of power outages.
  • Around the house, secure outdoor objects that could become airborne.

Due to forecasted inclement weather, the following MCCS facilities will open at 12 p.m. Sunday, March 16:

  • MCX
  • Fitness Center
  • The Globe & Anchor Dining Hall

Stay alert and stay safe! This is a serious weather threat and could cause significant damage. Continue to monitor MCLB Albany social media for installation updates and to your local news, as well as the National Weather Service, for weather updates.
