MARINE CORPS LOGISITCS BASE ALBANY -- The usual earlier morning silence at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany was abruptly interrupted by the echoing of sirens from various emergency vehicles during the "raging renegade" active shooter exercise, May 13.
During the training, base personnel tested response time, interoperability and supporting requirements between agencies in response to an active shooter incident aboard the installation.
Sundee Tate, installation training and exercise specialist, Base Operations and Training Division, MCLB Albany, summarized the significance of the Raging Renegade exercise for ensuring the safety of residents, personnel, tenant organizations and visitors aboard the base.
"MCLB Albany successfully conducted its bi-annual active shooter full scale exercise, which brought together multiple community partners, first responders, and numerous volunteers in a coordinated effort to enhance the installation’s emergency preparedness and response capabilities. The simulated exercise was designed to validate policies, as well as test and evaluate coordination, communication, and tactical response in the event of an active shooter situation."
Sundee added that this type of realistic training and exercises are essential for ensuring readiness to respond swiftly and effectively to any emergency or threat.
"The scenario unfolded in real-time, allowing teams to practice critical decision-making under pressure and test protocols in a realistic setting. This exercise was a great success thanks to the incredible collaboration between all participating organizations," says Tate.
