Crouch Field Ball Park at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany was the very busy scene for a different kind of competition, coaching, spectators and fans seeking a little fun, food and frolicking, here, May 9.

Vendors, animal caregivers and groomers joined pet lovers who showcased their canines and a few of their felines at the installation’s 2nd annual Paws at the Park event, which was coordinated by Marine Corps Community Services staff.

Angelica Roddy, certified animal attendant, 4Paws Pet Salon and Companions Animal Hospital, Albany, Georgia, commented on her reasons for attending the event.

“I am here to support the animals up for adoption,” Roddy said. “I am also here because I just love animals. We’re also providing free nail trims, giving away doggie snacks; we’re selling key chains, leashes and we’re actually giving out more information about our pet hospital.”

Katelyn Patterson, Cordele Animal Hospital, Cordele, Georgia, and her team came to provide free giveaways and important tips to the participating crowd.

“We’re here to give information to the public about their pets,” Patterson said. “We have some summer safety tips for all the dogs and we have our gift baskets to give out (for the pets).”

Several staff members from Pet Supermarket, Albany, Georgia, were on hand with information and free giveaways not only for the pets but also the owners at the event.

Laura Lee Bruner listed some of the items she and her team were distributing to canines and their owners in attendance and highlighted some of the events her store offers.

“We’re giving away a lot of free stuff today: Frisbees®, tennis balls, bandanas, food and treats with coupons and VIP cards," Bruner said. "We also have (periodic) Customer Appreciation Days where we offer discounts and free giveaways on those days as well.”

First and second place trophies were awarded to several dogs who participated in and were judged for their obedience/command skills, performance of various tricks and routines as well as for the best dressed during the day’s event.
