The Worth County School Board recently voted to continue to allow military children of school age currently enrolled in the Worth County School System to be “grandfathered” into the current agreement outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding between Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany and Worth County.
The school board also discussed the desire, and necessity, to start a dialogue and discussions with MCLB Albany officials regarding the way ahead for future student enrollments into Worth County schools.
These discussions are due to budgetary constraints and fiscal austerity within the school system; a product of present and future budget cuts that may have to be made.
Col. Don Davis, commanding officer, Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, and other base officials remain focused on the reality that offering more options in regard to school choices is the best route and course of action for students, local school districts, the base and the community as a whole.
Children are the up-and-coming contributing members of every local community, Davis said. The ability of community leaders to make decisions to afford students the most options and best possible opportunities is, in the end, in the best interest of everyone.
