TOPIC/EVENT:  Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening Ceremony of new MCLB Albany Endurance Course

DATE/TIME:        Thursday, May 4, 2023 / 9:30 a.m.

LOCATION:          End of the Obstacle Course at the intersection of McCawley Ave and Radford Blvd

DETAILS:              Come celebrate the newly built endurance course to build comradery and enhance physical fitness. Marines and Sailors aboard the Base will have the opportunity to run the new Endurance Course after the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 0945. Corpsman and safety support will be on site for one hour. The trail will be open to walkers and runners.

Attire is Uniform of the Day or proper civilian attire for the ceremony.

DETAILS:              The Military Spouses Club of Albany would like to invite you to participate in the first Dubbers Oak Leadership Seminar (DOLS) created with YOU in mind! This seminar will be packed with classes to help you as a leader whether that may be at home or in your professional life. Class topics include self-reflection, stress management, conflict resolution, and family resiliency. Expected guest speakers not limited to Base Commander Col. Fitzgerald, LOGCOM Commanding General Reventlow, Marine Corps Family Team Building, Chamber of Commerce and military spouse leaders in the community.

TOPIC/EVENT:  Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey

DETAILS:              Be on the lookout! The Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey (FEVS) will be available soon to eligible federal employees!

Let your voice be heard!  A census of our workforce who were onboard as of November 30, 2022 will receive the Federal Viewpoint Survey 2023.  The OPM FEVS provides leaders and managers with invaluable data which highlight aspects where Marine Corps achieves effectiveness and those where improvements may be necessary.

**Eligibility** Employees not eligible for the survey are political appointees, contractors/non-Federal employees, intermittent/seasonal employees, Intel community employees and any employees who joined their agency after 30 November 2022. NAF has only been added in the past couple years and their responses will be shown separately in 2023.

TOPIC/EVENT:   Driver Improvement Course "NSC Alive At 25"

DATE/TIME:       May 11, 2023 / 7:30 - noon (Thursday)

LOCATION:         Bldg. 3010, HRO Pass & ID, Training Room 3

AUDIENCE:         Military Personnel, Retirees, DoD Civilians, and Dependents.

DETAILS:  Alive at 25 is a 4.5 hour driver improvement course designed by the National Safety Council for young drivers age 15-25. Required for all Marines under the age of 26, their first gaining unit will ensure the Marines receive at least four hours of driver awareness training within 60 days of reporting to the command. 

 

Training includes:

1) Defensive driving classroom curriculum - "Gain awareness and develop strategies to keep safe on the road". 

2) Decision-making and responsibility-taking - "Learn through interactive media, workbook exercises, role-playing, and class discussions".

TOPIC/EVENT:  MURPH Challenge

DETAILS:              Lt. Michael Patrick Murphy (May 7, 1976 – June 28, 2005) was a United States Navy SEAL officer who was awarded the U.S. military's highest decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his actions during the War in Afghanistan.  Murphy was killed on 28 June 2005 during Operation Red Wings. He had left cover and moved to a clearing away from the mountains, exposing himself to a hail of gunfire in order to get a clear signal for his satellite phone so he could contact headquarters to relay their dire situation and request immediate support for his team. He dropped the satellite phone after being shot more than 14 times but picked the phone back up and finished the call. Murphy signed off saying "Thank you", then continued fighting from his exposed position until he died from his wounds. Every year around Memorial Day, fitness facilities across the US participate in the MURPH challenge. The challenge is to honor Lt. Michael Murphy and all those who have given their lives in service for our country.

DETAILS: The MCCS Education Services Officer will guide service members and spouses through the variety of decisions involved in choosing a college or degree program, understanding admissions process, and funding options to pursue educational goals. The expected outcome is for those in attendance to create a customized plan for a successful transition to a higher education institution.
