Smoke filled Daniels Family Fitness Center Sept. 15 around
noon, causing the fire alarms to sound.
According to Whitney Hendrix, fitness director, Daniels Family Fitness Center an incorrect
setting on a microwave may have been the cause.
The minor mishap caused a major chain reaction of the
building being evacuated while fire, rescue and police converged on the
facility.
Hendrix explained because safety is the first priority, the
building is always evacuated once a fire alarm sounds.
“It does not matter if it is real or even a fire drill, once
those alarms sound, we are going to follow protocol, which includes evacuating
the building,” she said. “The whole thing lasted about 10 minutes.”
Fire officials gave the all clear and patrons scattered
about the facility returned to their workouts.
