MCA hosts ‘Warrior Day’

Marine Corps Logistics Command and Maintenance Center Albany officials will host a “Warrior Day” here Friday for four Camp Lejeune Marines.

One of the visiting Marines was riding in a light armored reconnaissance vehicle when it hit an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan in 2009. Lance Cpl. William E. Chapmann was wounded, but survived the blast, according to Sgt. Maj. Conrad E. Potts, sergeant major, MCA.

Logistics Command and MCA officials will recognize these four combat-veteran Marines, members of 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, N.C., and show them their operations, he said.

“This is an opportunity to bring these four Marine warriors, who have served in combat, to Maintenance Center Albany and let them meet the civilian workers who work on the equipment that saved their lives,” Potts said. “The civilian workers get to put a face with the equipment they work on and repair every day. The Marines will get the opportunity to tell our workforce what a difference they make in helping them stay alive and do their jobs.”

It will also be an opportunity for the Marines to make suggestions on things that can be improved upon, as far as design, or fixes to minor problems with the equipment, he added.

Among the events slated for the Marines’ visit here, they will receive armor shield plaques, a brief and tour MCA and meet line workers who repair the light armored vehicles and other equipment as well as have a cookout with the LAV work section.

The Marines are also scheduled to play golf and attend an Albany Panthers arena football game.
