MARINE CORPS LOGISTICS BASE ALBANY, Ga. -- The commanding general of Marine Corps Logistics Command and the commanding officer of Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, Ga. hosted a community appreciation meet and greet for local community leaders Aug. 20 at the Base Conference Center.
The event was held to say ‘thank you’ to community leaders for their steadfast support of the Marine Corps’ mission of supporting the warfighter in Albany.
Brig. Gen. James A. Kessler, commanding general, LOGCOM, thanked the leaders for attending the gathering and for their longstanding support of the Marines and civilian-Marines who work for LOGCOM and the base.
“It’s an amazing thing where you have the kind of community support that we have here in Albany,” said Kessler, who took command of LOGCOM less than two months ago and has observed the strong ties with his command and the surrounding community.
“We couldn’t do it without the support from the community. We see this as a very synergistic thing. That hopefully your support to us, and likewise our support to the community is best for both of us.”
One of the leaders of Albany, Mayor Willie Adams, said that he and his staff have always supported the Marines and civilian-Marines aboard base, but lately the relationship is stronger than ever. “I’ve been in Albany for almost 38 years. I’ve never seen esprit de corps like I see here,” he added.
Col. Terry V. Williams, commanding officer, Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, Ga., who co-hosted the event with Kessler, said that the community’s great support makes their job of directly supporting the warfighter much easier.
“The support you give us enables us to focus our efforts on the warfighter,” Williams added. “It is quite impressive to see the ways you support us, and I hope to build upon that relationship by continuing to support you.”
Among those attending the event was Jeff Sinyard, chairman of the Dougherty County Commission, who expressed his support.
"Thank you. It's just that simple," Sinyard Said. "I don't know if I've ever felt better about the Marine Corps' relationship with this community. I thing that it's the best that it's ever been. The stars are lined up. For the community, I just want to say thank you."
