MARINE CORPS LOGISTICS BASE ALBANY, Ga -- Mike Cooper, vice president of Clifton Steel, an Ohio-based company, toured Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, April 15.
As the VP of the company that enabled MCLB Albany to achieve its recent accomplishments with the armor kits, Cooper's visit to Maintenance Center Albany was the highlight of the tour.
Clifton Steel was the major supplier of armor plates that maintenance center workers turned into the armor kits that protect Marine Humvees and trucks used during combat.
According to Col. Peter T. Underwood, commander, MCA, "Mike Cooper and the rest of the employees at Clifton Steel did a great job supplying us with the steel. In just 28 days, they were able to send us one million pounds of armor plates."
Aside from their designated duties with the company that has been contracting with the military for 20 years, employees gave much of their personal time, including late hours and vacation time, to complete the mission and enable the maintenance center to handle the high demand for protecting deployed Marines.
Col. Underwood and Trent Blalock, MCA's deputy commander, traveled to Twinsburg, Ohio, to present Clifton Steel with an award for their superb work in meeting such tough deadlines.
After the presentation, Cooper said: "It feels great to receive recognition for our accomplishment, but it's more gratifying knowing we are assisting in saving lives of Marines."
