Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, GA -- The Marine Corps teams victoriously squared off against the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce teams in the Spring match-up of the biannual Salty Sandbagger Golf Tournament held at River Pointe Golf Club, April 25.
Following a 24 – 16.5 victory that handed the MCLB Albany team the trophy back from the Chamber, this good-natured spirit of competition dates back to the mid-70’s and is focused on building relationships.
The Salty Sandbagger Tournament is a friendly competition that is all about camaraderie and strengthening the bond that already exists between the business and military communities.
“We look forward to this event each year and continuing to build upon those relationships, meet new friends and nourish those relationships we already have,” said Col. Alphonso Trimble, commanding officer, MCLB Albany. “This tournament is a great way to build community relations. Our opponents really put it on us hard, but were kind enough to say we took it like Marines.”
