In spite of Monday’s rainy conditions, roughly 2,200 spectators from the local and surrounding communities watched the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon’s, the Marine Corps Color Guard’s and “The Commandant’s Own” Marine Corps Drum and Bugle Corps’ dazzling performances at the Battle Color Detachment Ceremony at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany.
The event showcased the Marine Corps as well as allowed it to show its appreciation to the community, according to Col. Don Davis, commanding officer, MCLB Albany.
“This is a great opportunity for our Marines to see some of their own they have never seen before and it is also a great opportunity to show our appreciation to Albany,” Davis said.

Comprised of three performing ceremonial units from Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., the Marine Corps Color Guard, the Silent Drill Platoon and the Drum & Bugle Corps, seen performing here two years ago at Schmid Field, make up the Battle Color Detachment. Every year, the BCD travels to every clime and place, performing for hundreds of thousands of spectators.

Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany’s Tax Center will help prepare and file federal and state taxes for active-duty military, retirees and family members for free.
The Albany Tax Center opened Wednesday and is located in Building 3500, Room 314. Its hours of operation will be Mondays through Fridays from 8-11:30 a.m. and 1-4 p.m., by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, call 229-639-6186.

Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, Albany, Ga., co-sponsored the event with Deerfield-Windsor School’s cross country team.
