Officials highlight base success stories

Several officials from Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany met with Maj. Gen. Craig C. Crenshaw, commanding general, Marine Corps Logistics Command, Dec. 16. The purpose was to provide information on the services and initiatives being fulfilled by the base.

“We are here today to present a base support brief that outlines some of what Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany (does),” Fred Broome, director, Installation and Environmental Division, MCLB Albany, said.  

During the briefs, officials highlighted some of the achievements from their departments. Brian Wallace, environmental branch head, I & E, MCLB Albany, spoke about the recycling program here as one of the most successful in the Marine Corps based on the size of the installation.



Wallace explained the program has been self-sufficient for the last five years and actually funds the salaries of two full-time government and two full-time contracted employees.

Randall Kennedy, housing officer, MCLB Albany, spoke about some of the housing options, explaining feedback from visitors indicates the facilities are hitting the mark.

“We have had folks compare it to the Hale Koa hotel and resort in Waikiki (Hawaii),” he said.

Broome added to the high praises by sharing comments some customers have made.

“I think the highest compliment we get is when folks leave comment cards that say I have stayed at Air Force bases that were not so good,” he said with a chuckle.

Broome continued with the brief touting base energy programs that are also gaining high marks.

“We have really sky-lined ourselves in the Marine Corps in terms of the energy programs,” he said. “We are considered head and shoulders above others.”

Broome said this is not just the opinion of base employees and tenants but also the chain of command.

At the end of the briefs, Crenshaw was given a tour of the landfill gas generator building to see the equipment.

 At the conclusion, Crenshaw expressed his approval.
