OPM extends target deadline for 2015 CFC ‘giving’

Tis the season for gift giving and the installation’s campaign managers and key workers say, because “It’s not too late to give,” the 2015 Combined Federal Campaign provides another opportunity to do just that — give.

The Office of Personnel Management extended the CFC deadline, from Dec. 15 to Dec. 31, to allow federal employees additional time to make charitable contributions to a number of reputable local, state and national organizations.

In a collaborative effort to meet and exceed the 2015 goal, Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, Marine Corps Logistics Command and Marine Corps Community Services campaign representatives are urging personnel to partner in this worthwhile cause.

Johnny Little, safety specialist, Risk Management Office, MCLB Albany, is one of three campaign managers aboard the installation selected to work on this year’s Southwest Georgia CFC team.

“Participating Combined Federal Campaign (agencies) raise funds and disburse them to the United Way, which then distributes them to qualifying companies,” Little said. “We have international, national and local programs the CFC supports.

“We are not committed to a specific dollar amount, but we are committed to contact every employee on the installation,” he explained. “Whether (personnel) work for (MCLB Albany) or for one of the tenant commands, we ask for contributions; it is really voluntary as to whether or not they contribute.

“Key workers have been selected by the three campaign managers to contact divisions within their commands,” Little said. “It is their responsibility to contact the workers in their area. From there, we distribute information through (handing out) booklets and pledge forms. We see to it that one is made available to every employee who wants one.

“There is good information in the booklet, which (also) gives the structure of the CFC,” he continued. “(Information) to help (donors) make informed giving decisions and a list of the charitable organizations that are eligible for funding. Also, on page 12 in the booklet, there is a list of all of the local organizations within our area.”

The installation’s overall standing in calculated contributions to date is at about 24 percent of the $85,000 goal, Little reported. He encouraged personnel to take advantage of the extended deadline and consider one of the three methods to donate: (1) payroll deduction; (2) cash-on-hand, or (3) check-on-hand.

Anthony Wade, operations and plans specialist, Operations and Training Division, MCLB Albany, serves as the CFC key worker for his division.

“I inform the military, civilian and contractors assigned to Operations and Training Division about the CFC,” Wade said.  “(I am the point of contact) if (they want) to donate. Our division, which is comprised of Operations and Civilian Training, Military Operations and Training, Mission Assurance and the Public Affairs Office, is at about 40 percent (of our goal) right now.”

Wade said he has promoted the CFC in his work area with posters; visited different work sections in his division; informed division personnel the CFC is underway; distributed booklets, pledge forms and gave verbal notification he is the POC if individuals want to contribute.
