November 20, 2015 -- Lt. Col. Nathaniel Robinson, executive officer, Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, was the featured guest speaker for the Veterans Day ceremony at Darton State College, Albany, Georgia, Nov. 10.
In addition to a musical tribute to veterans, one local veteran was also recognized for his place in history as one of the first African-Americans to integrate the Marine Corps, Henry Jackson, Montford Point Marine.
Robinson also paid tribute to Jackson in his remarks as he also honored other veterans for their service.
“Mr. Jackson’s dedicated and distinguished service paved the way for me and many other African- Americans to join the Marine Corps and serve our country faithfully and honorably,” Robinson said. “To the members of our armed forces and the veterans who are here tonight, I am deeply honored and humbled to spend this day honoring the sacrifices of the men and women who have served this country honorably and with distinction.”
Stephanie Raulerson, program coordinator and director of military and adult education, Darton State College, said less than one percent of America’s population make the choice to serve their country and Darton State College is always honored to make sure veterans are recognized and their service is never forgotten.
“We are also proud that we have several active-duty and veteran students enrolled and have been selected again for the fourth year in a row as a top military-friendly college,” Raulerson said.
