06/11/2015 -- A trucker destined for the Fleming Road truck gate instead found his vehicle embedded in mud on the side of the road. The big rig veered off the road after coming in contact with the saturated muddy ground on the side of the roadway.
The bed of the truck straddled the roadway just before 7 a.m. causing morning work traffic to come to a halt in both directions on Fleming Road. Sgt. Lester Williams, automotive mechanic, Marine Corps Logistics Command, saw the melee and wasted no time assembling the troops to aid the driver.
“I saw he was stuck and I knew it would cost him a lot of money to get that rig out,” he said. “I made a call to motor pool and coordinated to have one of our vehicles come pull him out.” After careful maneuvering, the truck and the bed was freed from the mud.
Aaron Macri, truck driver, Value truck, was grateful the Marines came to his aid.
“I’m so happy these guys were willing to help me out," he said. "I don’t even want to think about what it would have cost me if I had called a towing company. These guys saved the day.”
