LOGCOM hosts Employee Recognition Day

Marine Corps Logistics Command held its 10th annual Employee Recognition Day at Boyett Park aboard Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, Oct. 16. 

This day is set aside each year to recognize and celebrate the dedicated support provided by the Marines and civilian-Marines of LOGCOM.

Once the awards were presented and the ceremony was concluded, hundreds of employees enjoyed refreshments and an afternoon of team-building events.

Jerry Mengelkoch, director, Maintenance Management Center, LOGCOM, along with his staff, headed up the 2014 ERD event. 

“This annual event is designed to recognize the professional contributions of LOGCOM’s Marine and civilian-Marine workforce,” Mengelkoch said. “Employees met at the amphitheater to attend an awards’ ceremony hosted by Maj. Gen. John J. Broadmeadow (commanding general). The remaining activities of ERD were full of fun, including delicious refreshments, a D.J. providing musical entertainment, prizes and true competition! 

“Team-building games challenged organizations to pool their resources and compete where coveted trophies, medals, and most importantly, ‘bragging rights’ were awarded,” he added. “Employees displayed their skill and talent in these challenging team-building events that included volleyball, horseshoes, tug-of-war, bocce ball, canoe races, musical chairs, junk-in-the-trunk, hula hoops, checkers, trivia challenge, bingo, and the pinnacle of the day’s competitions — the Director’s egg toss. 

“This anticipated annual event lived-up to all expectations as it delivered a day full of recognition, rewards and congenial fellowship among all (of) LOGCOM’s workforce members,” Mengelkoch continued.

“Employee Recognition Day is a great opportunity to celebrate the many accomplishments of LOGCOM’s workforce, all of which have a direct impact on the combat readiness and expeditionary capabilities of the Marine Corps’ operating forces,” Broadmeadow said. “Our workforce is the single most important aspect of this command.

“We have deservedly earned a reputation for professionalism and commitment to the highest standards because of the many dedicated individuals who make up LOGCOM’s workforce,” he noted. “Today is all about recognizing that dedication, acknowledging our achievements and sharing in some camaraderie.”

The Organizational Development Office, LOGCOM, will be posting an electronic book that lists the winners in each category along with photos of the day’s events.
