July 3, 2014 -- Headquarters Marine Corps’ Installations and Logistics recently received the Champions of Veteran Enterprise Award from the National Veteran Small Business Coalition for its significant actions to increase contracting or subcontracting opportunities for veterans.
The award was presented June 17 at the 2014 Veteran Entrepreneur Training Symposium in Reno, Nevada, where Hattie Mosely, director, Small Business Program Office, Marine Corps Logistics Command, accepted the award on behalf of I&L.
“I am delighted that I&L will once again be receiving this prestigious award,” Mosely said. “It is a fantastic accolade for my team to be named as a winner of this award.
“To award seven percent of our total contractual dollars (exceeding the Department of Defense target of three percent) is a testament to the great work we do to support our service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses,” she said. “I am honored to have been asked to accept this award on behalf of I&L and appreciate the training and networking opportunities this conference offered.”
NVSBC’s mission is to transition veterans into business owners and to ensure that veteran businesses are given first consideration for federal prime and subcontracting procurement opportunities.
The Champions of Veteran Enterprise Award recognizes those federal agencies and prime contractors that meet or exceed the congressionally-mandated goal of providing opportunities to veteran-owned and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses.
Lt. Gen. Mark Faulkner, deputy commandant for I&L, said in a recent press release, “Our military veterans have served this great country of ours honorably and faithfully and anything we can do to recognize their sacrifices and assist their transition into the business world is time well spent. I am very proud of our small business managers at bases and stations throughout the Marine Corps for what they do in support of our veterans.”
The 2014 VETS brought more than 300 stakeholders together to discuss how to take advantage of federally-mandated contracting opportunities, specifically for veteran-owned small businesses.
“Hattie is an integral part of the Marine Corps team that focuses on the consideration of veteran-owned small businesses for procurement opportunities,” Mike Madden, executive deputy, LOGCOM, said. “The fact that she was asked to accept this award on behalf of I&L is a testament to her hard work and dedication in support of veterans beyond their time on active duty. She is definitely an asset to LOGCOM.”
