More than 100 Marines, Sailors, Civilian-Marines and their families attended Marine Corps Logistics Command’s annual Family Fun Day May 29 held at Covella Pond, here.
The purpose of the Family Fun Day is for MCLC personnel and their families to eat, play and fellowship in a comfortable atmosphere and to take a break from their daily routine, according to Salina McBride, family readiness officer, MCLC.
“This event, which is an annual, continuous tradition of Marine Corps Logistics Command, is designed to build and or maintain unit camaraderie, while enjoying a fun-filled day with their families,” she said.
“Family Day is a solid morale booster for Marines as well as their families,” Staff Sgt. Benjamin D. Ford, company gunnery sergeant, Headquarters Company East, MCLC, said. “It shows the caring aspect of the Marine Corps and allows families to relax and enjoy the thanks and gratitude that is due for the many sacrifices they have made for just being a family member of a Marine.”
With opening remarks by Col. Yori R. Escalante, chief of staff, MCLC, the celebration was underway with a myriad of events that were open to all to participate in.
The events included kickball, a water balloon toss, a scavenger hunt and a dunk tank.
“We had great weather and it was a great day,” Escalante said. “I felt honored to be the first in the dunk tank ... it actually was a relief from the heat.”
The playground was also open since it was located in close proximity to the other events. Inflatable water slides were provided for the children to enjoy fun in the sun.
“Family Fun Day is a great time for the unit to get together and partake in a fun-filled day,” Staff Sgt. Juana L. De Los Santos, equal opportunity advisor, MCLC, said. “It’s important that we interact and fellowship with each other because at the end of the day we are all family.”
