MARINE CORPS LOGISTICS BASE ALBANY, Ga. -- Crewmen sounded a horn on top of a fire-engine red train on Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany’s parade ground in front of Building 3500, Monday. “Toys for Tots” glistened in fresh white paint on the side of the train, flanked by Marines in dress blue uniforms.
The spectacle signaled the beginning of the 2012 Toys for Tots campaign.
Gunnery Sgt. Kenneth Starkey, supply chief, Detachment 2, Supply Company, 4th Supply Battalion, 4th Marine Logistics Group, provided remarks during the event, which included information on how individuals may sign up or participate in the event.
Last year alone, his unit collected more than 14,000 toys for 4,000 children in the local area and raised more than $9,000 in donations.
“This is a combined effort among the Marine Corps Reserves, local businesses and the Salvation Army to ensure less fortunate children have a Christmas this year and the years to come,” Starkey said. “We encourage everyone to donate an unwrapped toy between $10 and $15
