Marine Corps Battle Color Detachment set to perform

Marine Corps Logistics Command‘s Commanding General Maj. Gen. James A. Kessler, is scheduled to host an Evening Parade, Wednesday, at Schmid Field. The ceremony, free and open to the public, is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

Jeff “Bodine” Sinyard, chairman, Dougherty County Commission, will be the guest of honor for this year’s ceremony.

The United States Marine Corps Battle Color Detachment will present about an hour performance of music and precision marching. The Evening Parade will feature “The Commandant’s Own,” the United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps; the Marine Corps Color Guard and the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon.

The Evening Parade has become a universal symbol of the professionalism, discipline and esprit de corps of the United States Marines.

The U.S. Marine Drum and Bugle Corps will play a variety of contemporary/patriotic music while marching. However, the precision of the Silent Drill Platoon is expected to be the highlight of the event.

The annual performance provides base personnel, local officials, Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps units and members of the local and surrounding communities an opportunity to see an ensemble of musical and drill performance excellence.

The public is asked:

not to bring pets (with the exception of service dogs), alcohol, knives, coolers or weapons.

to have bags ready for inspection prior to entering the base.

to park outside the main gate of the base.

Base officials have implemented an inclement weather plan.

If light rain is forecasted, the event will proceed as scheduled, but if heavy rain and/or lightning is expected, the performance will be canceled.

In the event of cancellation, the decision will be made by 1 p.m. Wednesday and the public will be notified via radio, television, Face-book, Twitter and e-mail for base personnel.
