Employee Recognition Day honors hard work

Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany held an awards ceremony Aug. 17 to honor select employees for their hard work and dedication over the past year.

This was the second time base officials held the Employee Recognition Day, and they hope to make it a more common occurrence.

“I want to personally thank you all.  We have done some incredible things,” said Col. Terry V. Williams, commanding officer, MCLB Albany.  “The accolades we continue to see go all the way up and down the chain of command. I want to challenge all the directors to go out next year and triple the amount of awardees.”

Certificates of appreciation and awards were given out for length of service and time off.

“Part of unit cohesion is recognizing the people in the unit.  We constantly call you all civilian-Marines so you are part of the team.  I believe it’s a one team, one fight, and we do it all together. We are not about 12 individual divisions or branches.  We are about one base,” said Sgt. Maj. Scott C. Mykoo, former sergeant major, MCLB Albany, during his last ceremony before his Relief and Appointment Ceremony, Aug. 20. “I believe if we recognize people like the saying goes, ‘Mission first, people always (and) if we take care of the people the mission will always be successful.”

Overall, 35 base employees received awards either individually or as part of a team.
