Col. Terry W. Reid, commander, Maintenance Center Albany, was awarded the Legion of Merit Oct. 14 during a ceremony at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, Ga.

Reid’s service as assistant chief of staff, Aviation Logistics Department, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, New Orleans, La., from July 2007 to June 2009 was the basis for the award.

Brig. Gen. James A. Kessler, commanding general, Marine Corps Logistics Command, presented the award.

“Col. Reid and his wife Jackie bring a lot to this command as a team. We appreciate the opportunity for this command to be able to recognize your previous accomplishments,” Kessler said at the ceremony. “Sometimes, these awards are read prior to the detachment of the Marine from their previous unit and the new unit may not get the flavor of what a Marine accomplished at their previous duty station.”

The citation accompanying the award described Reid’s service at 4th MAW as “exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service,” and that he displayed “exceptional levels of inspirational leadership and expertise while executing his demanding duties in an exemplary and highly professional manner.”

Reid was also cited for his management of aviation operational budgets that exceeded $200 million and other management activities to support Operation Mojave Viper.

“When I went to 4th MAW, our goal was to become known as one of four Marine Aircraft Wings, not the Reserve wing. What we were able to accomplish can be attributed to an outstanding team,” Reid said. “That tour was cut short when I was selected for command of Maintenance Center Albany. We have a great team here, and I look forward to continuing the high level of work MCA is known for.”
