Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany -- Marine Corps Logistics Command held its fourth annual LOGCOM Employee Recognition Day at Boyett Park here Oct. 16.
Hundreds of employees turned out to witness numerous employees receiving awards and even more people enjoyed the picnic and games provided.
After the invocation, national anthem and posting of the Colors, Michael Madden, executive deputy, LOGCOM, opened the awards ceremony.
Madden called the year, “amazing.”
He thanked the employees for taking steps to realize the vision of Maj. Gen. Willie J. Williams, commanding general, LOGCOM.
Madden said, “One of our objectives was to strategically engage the warfighter on their turf. We have done that.”
He also said LOGCOM is executing maintenance in each of the Marine Expeditionary Force’s home stations and that “we have maintained a persistent presence in-theater proving that we can function at the operational level.”
Madden also said, “But like most great organizations, we cannot rest on what we have done, but what we will do in the future,” adding, “We need to be in the game every day.”
There were more than 40 nominations for individual awards in six categories: Community Service, Administrative Employee of the Year, Supervisor/Team Leader of the Year, Executive of the Year, Employee of the Year and the Hall of Fame award. Additionally, there were 13 teams nominated for Team of the Year.
Although Bettye Sue Eaton could not attend the ceremony to receive her Hall of Fame award in person, she wrote, “I am so honored and humbled by this. … You know that I love the Marine Corps. … I sincerely appreciate you and salute you for all that you do for the Marine Corps and our great country every day.”
Robin Hortman said of her award as Employee of the Year, “I’m very honored. It’s very humbling. I am very appreciative of my team leader and my boss.”
She said her reaction when her name was called for the award was, “I was shocked, just shaking when I went down there.”
Sgt. Maj. Stephen Balczo, sergeant major, LOGCOM, said of the civilian employees, “Civilian leadership … supports a Marine in uniform sitting here and who can now be joined with a unit going overseas. It also means this is a great team. … It is just a phenomenal thing they are doing here to support the warfighter.”
The chair of the Recognition Day Committee, Pamela Bryant, said of the event, “We’re just really happy that things are going so well. It’s a wonderful day.”
