Marines

Marines first in everything

10 Jan 2003 | Sgt. Joshua Bozeman Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany

Family life always been somewhat challenging to military personnel because of the time they spend away from home, often doing dangerous things. But don't tell that to Cpl. Antione Robinson, who is currently at home with his five-day-old baby Zachary, and his wife Rachel. Robinson, military policeman here, and his wife, currently a stay at home mother, welcomed Albany's first 2003 baby. As thousands of military children prepare to say goodbye to their fathers and mothers, one Albany Father was doing just the opposite: he was preparing to welcome his son. At 11:40 a.m. New Year's Day, the 7-lb, 7-oz. infant who was 20-in.-long was born with a head full of hair. Both parents were a bit surprised that they were the first Albanians to have a child this year because he came at mid-day, but were very happy to have a healthy little boy, who doesn't cry much at all. Josh, their 1 1/2-year-old son, was a little more apprehensive at first, said his father. The skeptical little boy made weird faces at his new brother at first, not quite knowing what to think of him. But that quickly changed. "Now he loves to hold him and give him smooches," said their mother as she smiled at her children. Though the couple would like to have more children, they said that for the time being they are more than happy with two. "The final number is still under debate," said Robinson. "Twelve!" Rachel said jokingly as Antione rolled his, eyes seeming to say, 'I don't think so.' Though some things are still in discussion, one thing was for sure: they considered both of their healthy boys to be great blessings. "Having Zachary helped me see how special Josh is," said the young mother. "I mean, I know he is special, but seeing Zach now just reminds me of how Josh used to be and how far he has come." For the time being, the Robinsons are taking life one day at a time.
