Col. Alphonso Trimble, commanding officer, Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, served as the keynote speaker for the seventh annual Memorial Day Ceremony at Albany Technical College, May 24.  The ceremony was held in the Kirkland Conference Center and attended by faculty, staff, students and members of the local community.

“It was an honor today to have the opportunity to remember those who have gone before me and paid the ultimate price,” Trimble said.  “Less than one percent of Americans serve and there are even fewer who are related to or know someone currently serving.”

Trimble noted this is why it is more important than ever to remember the sacrifice these individuals make and to honor and remember those who gave their lives in service to our country.

Dr. Anthony Parker, president, ATC, told the audience, “As we gather to honor and remember those who have given their lives in service to our country, Memorial Day is a time set aside in remembrance of those who have given their lives in service to our country.  (It) also marks the unofficial beginning of summer, a time for picnics and family gatherings and a day off from classes and work.

“Here today, we take a few minutes to pause and know that the reason that we will be able to enjoy these activities is because of the sacrifices made for our great nation by military men and women.  Sometimes it’s the ultimate sacrifice.  We are all here to remember our nation’s fallen heroes from wars past and present.”

Trimble concluded, “There have been members of the military here in Georgia who have paid the ultimate price.  I’m humbled to be here today to represent them and their memories. It is always an honor to speak on behalf of other service members.”
