Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, GA -- Two members of the Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany family were recognized Thursday with certificates for completing 100 hours of volunteer service with the local Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society.
Staff Sgt. Charles Scheuter, installation representative volunteer, and Gloria Enid Picaso, NMCRS volunteer, were both honored in a private awards ceremony in the Carson Conference Room. Scheuter, an active-duty Marine, also serves as the career planner for MCLB Albany.
As part of their volunteer service, $24,017 in assistance in the form of interest-free loans and grants was provided to 32 different local clients, according to Megan O’Connell, NMCRS director.
These funds directly assisted active-duty military, retirees and their family members who demonstrated a critical financial need.
“Volunteers are the backbone of our organization,” O’Connell pointed out. “We could not meet our mission without our dedicated team of volunteers who give of their time and talent to serve our Marines and Sailors in times of financial need.”
Worldwide, there are 4,000 volunteers who have assisted with the disbursement of $45 million to more than 54,000 clients, O’Connell said.
The mission of the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society is to provide, in partnership with the Navy and Marine Corps, financial, educational, and other assistance to members of the Naval Service of the United States, eligible family members, and survivors when in need; and to receive and manage funds to administer these programs.
