Carroll III, authorized the wearing of denim by active-duty Marines to support National Denim Day. “It was an inspiring day towards remembering sexual assault victims and their plight to be supported and strengthened toward justice and fair treatment from our community and our society at large,” said Marcus White, coordinator, Sexual Assault Response Program, MCLB Albany. Denim Day began as an international protest to the Italian Supreme Court’s overruling of a rape conviction in 1999. During this case, an Italian woman was raped and her assailant was found guilty, but the conviction was later overturned. The defense used the argument that the victim must have helped the assailant remove her tight jeans, thus suggesting that since the jeans were so tight there was no way the assailant could have removed the jeans without the victim’s cooperation and assistance.

MARINE CORPS LOGISTICS BASE ALBANY, GA -- Marines and civilian-Marines from various commands aboard Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany sported blue shirts and denim jeans for one day only in support of sexual assault awareness, 25 April 2018.
