Christmas is only a few days away and the last day to donate to Toys for Tots to make a child’s dream come true is Dec. 17.

Gunnery Sgt. Jimmie Smith, coordinator, Toys for Tots, has been collecting toys for the program since October.

“For those who are late shoppers, it’s not too late to donate a toy valued at $20 or less,” Smith said. “This is chance for those blessed to have enough to help a less-fortunate child in the local community by donating a new, unwrapped toy.”

To those who have supported the Toys for Tots program this year, “thank you,” he added.

“My wish is for every child to wake up this Christmas morning and find a wrapped toy underneath their tree,” he said. “I want to use Toys for Tots to help spread that Christmas joy and cheer.”

Collection sites are located around the base and throughout the city of Albany and its surrounding areas.

Donators can find bins located around the installation at Buildings 3500 and 3700, Marine Depot Maintenance Command, Marine Corps Exchange and the Navy Federal Credit Union.

Off base, Marines in dress blues will accept new, unwrapped toys as well as cash donations at various collection points including the Albany Mall, Wal-Mart in Lee County and Toys R Us, to name a few.

According to Smith, the Marines will begin distributing toys to families of less-fortunate children, Dec. 20.
