A new forklift simulator, complete with virtual reality goggles and a two-sided screen, allows for those in forklift training aboard Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany to see what they would see – and perform the same maneuvers – as if they were on a real forklift. Now in a dedicated space in the base’s Garrison Mobile Equipment branch, it provides a way to train forklift drivers with an added layer of safety. The ribbon was cut on the investment June 25. The construction of this new facility will support Production Plant Albany and provide both large and small open bays for repairs to military tactical vehicles. What began as a simple effort to meet congressional and Department of Defense policy requirements evolved into a herculean effort to conduct a comprehensive assessment of each installation’s critical energy requirements, utility system capabilities and energy security program management needs. Sgt. Maj. Jeffrey A. Young, sergeant major, Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, a native of Baltimore, enlisted in the Marine Corps on May 24, 1991. He gained a lot in the years that followed.
