Turner Job Corps students participate in their annual Job Shadow Day visit to Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, recently. Each year, Marine Depot Maintenance Command, Albany, Ga., hosts several students in the maintenance and heavy equipment trades. Job Shadowing Day gives students an opportunity to see professionals in a variety of career fields perform their daily work activities and allows the host to answer any questions the students may have. Michael A. Davis, career technical training manager, Turner Job Corps, Albany, Ga., said through job shadowing, students are able to observe firsthand how the skills they learn in the classrooms are used in the workplace. “Volunteer mentors provide opportunities to demonstrate on-the-job skills and highlight their organizations' businesses to young people who will soon join the workforce,” Davis said. “Students also receive greater exposure to new jobs and exciting careers and are able to expand their network of employers.”
