A Message from the Commanding Officer

Col. Matthew J. McKinney

As the Commanding Officer of Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, I am honored to continue building upon the exceptional relationships, innovative energy and other “first” initiatives that exist between the base, tenant commands, community and the state. Our readiness to supporting future force requirements remains critical to ensuring MCLB Albany continues building upon its success for years to come in support of the warfighter. Even with a change in DOD priorities that includes infrastructure reset, there are numerous positive impacts to this installation including job creation, economic growth, innovation and other local long-term initiatives. We have several notable and significant accomplishments, worldwide impacts and resiliency programs.

As one of the six installations under Marine Corps Installations East, we are home to Marine Corps Logistics Command, Marine Depot Maintenance Command, Marine Force Storage Command and host other tenants who support the warfighter. In all, more than 40 tenant organizations call our installation “home,” to include the Department of Defense’s Humanitarian Assistance Program, Georgia Army National Guard, the Albany Veterans Affairs community-based Outpatient Clinic and Naval Facilities Engineering Command, just to name a few. We also boast community partnerships that further strengthen the installation mission, bolsters the local economy and improve quality of life for all Marines, sailors and soldiers.

MCLB Albany supports a total population of more than 13,000 that includes active-duty and their families, civilians, contractors and retirees. In December 2024, the Defense Commissary Agency launched a pilot at select military bases, including Albany. This was extended to December 2025 due to the program’s success. In addition, MCLB Albany was named home of All-Marine Sports, and this will continue indefinitely.

We are excited to have nearly finished military construction project P947, a $27.5M Welding and Body Repair Facility and expect to complete P976U, a $4.8M project to improve the commercial entrance on Mock Road, as well as a much-anticipated $7.5M Military Working Dog Kennel Renovation and Replacement project; all three of these projects will facilitate our mission of global tenant support, security of the installation, and providing modern, efficient, and resilient facilities and infrastructure - all of which improve our support to the warfighters!

As we look forward to a future that’s uncertain and celebrating the Corps’ 250th birthday, we look back on our many accomplishments. My team and I look forward to the next phase of strengthening our existing local partnerships, while continuing to provide vital support to our tenants, the Marine Corps, DOD and this community. We are exceptionally proud to be the only Marine Corps installation in the state of Georgia, and honored to reside alongside the great members of our Southwest Georgia community.

Leading The Way

Voluntary Protection Program

Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany is one of the safest places to work within the Department of Defense. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recognizes MCLBA as a Voluntary Protection Program Star Worksite for its extraordinary success in preventing occupational injuries and illnesses and for continuously improving its safety program. Less than 1% of all worksites under OSHA jurisdiction achieve Star status Our employees are fully engaged in preventing mishaps and we all look out for the health, safety and welfare of each other. Possessing the prestigious VPP Star Worksite designation for three years in a row is just one of the many reasons why MCLB Albany is a special place to live, work and visit.

HYBRID DINING HALL

The hybrid dining hall model (access to both active duty and civilian patrons) provides 19 meal periods per week resulting in 50,000 meals being served in FY24. MCLBA continues to prove that the hybrid-model concept can be successfully established at small installations across the enterprise to bring high-quality nutrient-dense feeding options to Marines not supported by traditional contracted messing.

SAFE HAVEN

During hurricane season, MCLB Albany acts as a “safe haven” for more than 16,000 personnel from the east and Gulf coasts. the destruction that follows in the wake of these storms typically requires the deployment of FEMA assets to local areas. when requested and tasked, MCLB Albany acts as a Tier 1 FEMA Incident Support Base (ISB) using five acres of hard stand readily accessible outside of the fence line and is prepared to support with another 5-1 acres inside the fence line if necessary. MCLB Albany was last tasked to support FEMA ISB operations during the relief efforts of hurricanes Helene and Milton. MARCENT initiated “safe haven” operations on 7 Oct 2024 in response to Hurricane Milton when the 6th ARW commander gave an evacuation order of MacDill AFB. assisted by MCLB Albany’s operations and communications divisions, MARCENT COOP Team maintained coop for MARCENT throughout the event with zero loss of capability to the MARCENT operations center’s mission. in previous years, MCLB Albany has supported multiple “safe haven” operations for MCRD Parris Island, MARCENT, naval education training command (NETC) at Pensacola, numerous incident support base taskings and acted as a base support incident for the Georgia Army National Guard, supporting relief operations in 2017 for the tornado outbreak in Southwest Georgia and in response to Hurricane Michael that devastated areas of Florida and Southwest Georgia in 2018.
