Dubbers Drubbers “served” Benchwarmers in an intramural volleyball game Monday at Thomason Gymnasium, winning two out of three matches, 15-4 and 15-11.

This was Dubbers Drubbers’ second victory during Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany’s 2014 intramural volleyball regular season game, which began March 3.

Dubbers Drubbers’ team captain Alyssa Forness attributed the win to communication and “having fun.”

“The second match was better than our first match,” she said. “We communicated more and were able to move the ball from the back row up to the setter.

“We had a lot of confidence in our ability to play, so it made it easier to have fun in the second match,” she said.

However, Benchwarmers’ team captain Emmanuel Melendez could not say the same for his team.

“There was a lot of miscommunication during both matches,” he said. “Half of the team was missing and most of them were starters. This was the first time for some of the players to start a game.”

Throughout the matches, Melendez gave his team quick pep talks, stressing communication, calling the ball and staying within the zones.

Although the Benchwarmers’ players gained more confidence during the second match, they could not hold on for the win.

“We played a good team tonight,” he said. “You could tell the Dubbers Drubbers had communication and their rhythm was good.”

Intramural volleyball games are scheduled to take place Mondays 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. at Thomason Gymnasium.

Beginning April 9, volleyball games will be scheduled at 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.
